Like most people, our journey into DIY was financially motivated. I love upgrading and improving. I adore changing. I squeal over the better-than-expected results.
However, I don’t love the cost of paying someone else to do anything that me and Rainman can handle ourselves. Other than just hurting my pride, it hurts my checkbook! In my experience the labor of a project doubles the cost. Sometimes more. We might be able to afford the supplies, but certainly not the labor to do elaborate installations. And with everything I have in my planning notebook… well, I save money where I can.
Apparently, I have really expensive taste. Or, that’s what he tells me. Luckily, I have him to build it all for me. With a little help from pinterest for inspiration and planning, a lot of googling, and a lot of cautious optimism we have figured it out one project at a time. We get better every time.
We do all of this with five kids, a dog, two cats, a full time job, after school activities for ALL of the kids, and a partridge in a pear tree. With a good sense of humor and a little wine, you can do it, too!
Take the plunge and share our journey.
